2012-2013 ANNUAL REPORT

The Borgias

Comprising a hair-raising Renaissance-era crime blog of intrigue, corruption, murder, power-play and perversion, their sordid family saga serves as the backdrop for creator/executive producer/writer Neil Jordan’s definitive and eventful series The Borgias.

My Big Big Friend

Your imagination can take you anywhere you want to go, let you be anyone you want to be, and, if you’re lucky, it’ll even create your very own BiG BiG Friend! And that’s just what happened to three young friends, Yuri, Lili and Matt.

Rouge Brésil

An adaptation of Jean-Christophe Rufin’s bestseller about two children brought to Brazil by the French to learn the indigenous language and act as interpreters for the colonists.

International Co-productions

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) supports international co-productions through both its Convergent and Experimental streams. In 2012-2013, international treaty co-productions represented a small portion of CMF funded projects, 2.3% of all convergent funding. There were no co-productions funded in the Experimental Stream in 2012-2013.

At a total of $7.4M, funding retreated  to 2010-2011 levels ($9.1M), from a high of $19.0M in 2011-2012, although the number of projects was consistent at 23.

The majority of co-productions were with the United Kingdom (10) and France (6), as has been the trend in recent years. New co-producing partners included Colombia and Finland. Ireland co-produced a big-budget drama for the third consecutive year, a new series entitled Vikings. Australia returned with 2 projects and Germany with 1 project in 2012-2013 after a two-year absence.

Funding to minority co-productions represented less than one-third of all co-production funding in 2012-2013.
